Use the wildcard in FAST search boxes when you do not know the exact value that you wish to search on. The wildcard character can be used as a placeholder for unknown letters or numbers. In FAST the wildcard character is the percent symbol ‘%’. Below are a few examples:
%ward – return all values ending with ‘ward’. Edward and Woodward for example.
Can% – return all values beginning with ‘Can’. Canada, and Canadian for example.
20%9 – return all values beginning with 20 ending with 9. 2009 and 201109 for example.
